The Azerbaijani Chess Championship among men and women will be held jointly by the Azerbaijan Chess Federation and the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The competition will take place in Baku from February 6 to 22. Sport24.az reports that 30 male and 16 female chess players will compete in the championship.
The competition will be organized according to the Olympic system and FIDE game rules.
As in the previous year, the leading chess players of the country will participate in the Azerbaijani championship this year. In the men's competition, rapid and world champion among 20-year-olds, three-time European champion among teams Shahriyar Mammadyarov, six-time Azerbaijani champion and three-time European champion among teams Rauf Mammadov, European champion as part of the national team Eltaj Safarli will compete for the championship. In the women's competition, the last Azerbaijani champion Gunay Mammadzada, the winner of the individual European championship Ulviyya Fataliyeva, the world champion among 20-year-olds Govhar Beydullayeva and other strong chess players will participate.
The total prize fund of the Azerbaijani championship is 92,000 manats. 62,000 manats of this amount was allocated to the men's competition, and 30,000 manats to the women's competition.
It should be noted that the opening ceremony of the Azerbaijani Chess Championship will be held on February 6.
