Opening ceremony of the Azerbaijan Youth Boxing Championship held

The opening ceremony of the Azerbaijan Youth Boxing Championship was held. Sport24.az reports that the event started with a parade of participating teams.

Speaking at the ceremony, Samir Huseynov, advisor to the President of the Azerbaijan Boxing Federation, said he believed that the fights would be intense and fair. According to him, the young athletes participating in the competition are the future of Azerbaijani boxing: "Last month, the young people who debuted at the Azerbaijan Championship among adults showed themselves well and a new team was formed. We have also watched the boxers who will fight in this competition at the Azerbaijan Championship among juniors. Each of them has great potential. All necessary steps will be taken for their further development, and the infrastructure will be strengthened not only in the capital, but also in the regions. I believe that we will see the first performances of future Olympic champions at the U-19 Azerbaijan Championship."

Aleksandr Hamidov, the Uzbek supervisor of the competition, praised the organization of the championship and wished the participants success.

Then the National Anthem was played and the U-19 Azerbaijan Championship was declared open.

It should be noted that at the competition held at the Boxing Center, prize-winners will be determined in 10 weight categories for boys and 5 for girls. 276 boxers from 58 teams representing clubs from various cities and regions of the republic, as well as sports societies, participate in the championship. In addition to local referees, foreign referees also manage the fights.

The names of the winners of the competition will be announced on February 15.
