The prohibited substance meldonium has been found in the organism of Azerbaijani MMA fighter Nihad Guliyev.
İdman.biz, citing Sportnet.az, reports that the International Testing Agency has informed the experienced athlete about this.
Guliyev was subjected to a doping test on the last day of the World Championship held in Sao Paulo, Brazil, from June 15-22. At that time, he won a gold medal in the 74.9 kg weight category among adults.
No decision has been made regarding the MMA fighter yet. If Guliyev requests the opening of the B sample and the result of the A sample is confirmed as a result, this will be confirmed as a violation of anti-doping rules. Even if the B sample is not requested within a certain period of time, the case will be treated as a confirmed anti-doping rule violation.
The athlete has been temporarily suspended from all competitions from July 31 until a decision is made.
