Russian wrestlers will be able to participate in international competitions of "United World Wrestling" (UWW) with full status.
Idman.Biz reports that the Minister of Sports of Russia, Mikhail Degtyaryov, announced this. According to him, the UWW Bureau has decided to allow Russian athletes of all age categories to international tournaments without any restrictions.
According to the decision, Russian wrestlers will be able to compete as part of the national team, under the national flag and anthem. Previously, UWW allowed Russian athletes to compete in categories up to 23 years of age.
Degtyaryov said that wrestling is one of the most medal-winning sports for Russia. He reminded that UWW unites freestyle wrestling, Greco-Roman wrestling, women's wrestling and other types.
It is noted that Russian athletes were previously allowed to participate in international competitions in judo, sambo, taekwondo, kickboxing, muay thai, boxing, MMA and water sports with full status.
It should be noted that although the International Olympic Committee lifted restrictions on Belarusian athletes on May 7, it announced that the issue of the status of the Russian Olympic Committee is still being investigated.
