The living legend of world wrestling, five-time participant of the Olympic Games in women's wrestling (she climbed the honorary podium in four of them - ed.), former member of the Azerbaijani national team Mariya Stadnik gave an interview to Idman.Biz.
- Mariya, what are you currently doing?
- I'm in the office (laughs). After finishing my career, I have been the coordinator of the women's wrestling team since February of this year. I lead the team, all age groups, analyze problems related to women's wrestling and look for talented athletes.
- Have you been able to find new talents in the last nine months?
- You can get pregnant in nine months, and I am "pregnant" with women's wrestling, but I haven't given birth yet (laughs). I need five to six years to discover and nurture talent, to prepare it for great victories.
- Will you have disciples who everyone knows and respects in the next five to six years?
- I don't have my own disciples, I'm neutral in this regard. My goal is for every girl in the team to show results, for everyone to talk about everyone and for positive results to be expected from each of them. There are currently very talented girls and I believe in them, but time will tell.
- How do negative events keep you so positive?
- The main thing is inside us, not around us. The more faith and love a person has inside, the less external influences affect him.
- Do you feel like a legend? Five Olympic Games, climbing the honorary podium in four of them, countless titles…
- No, I don't feel like a legend, neither alive nor in any other form (laughs). It's just that no one has ever been able to do what I can do.
- Can someone repeat your success?
- I think they can repeat it. I did it after all! They understand this too. They see that everything is possible. The main thing is that they want to achieve and realize it.
- What are the three happiest moments of your career?
- The moments when I started wrestling and when I finished wrestling (laughs). But seriously, every moment related to great victories has been happy for me.
- Have you experienced great failures? Are there any among them that still bother you?
- No, there are no such things. I used to think it was a failure, but now I realize that everything that didn't work out the way I wanted it to is just my experience.
- Can you tell me your three most cherished wishes?
- First - the end of the war in my homeland, Ukraine. Second - that my children are healthy. Third - that people appreciate and respect peace, and love each other.
