Farid Khalilov, the Greco-Roman wrestler of Azerbaijan, who won a bronze medal in the 62 kg weight category at the U-23 European Championship held in Zrenjanin, Serbia, had been waiting for this award for a long time.
He said this in an interview with the "Report" employee who was sent to the competition.
F. Khalilov said that he faced failures in previous competitions:
"I had been waiting for this medal for a long time. There were failures in previous competitions. This is my first medal at the U-23 European Championship. I had previously been a European champion in the youth competition".
The wrestler emphasized that he started the European Championship as he wanted:
"I suffered a lot during the preparation period. I started the competition the way I wanted. First, I defeated the German, then the Georgian opponent and advanced to the semi-finals. In this stage, my performance against my Russian opponents was not successful. I made a few more mistakes. I defeated my Hungarian opponent for the bronze medal. I am very happy that I did not remain without a medal".
The national team member believes that he will win a gold medal at the world championship:
"I want to participate in the upcoming U-23 world championship. I believe that I will win a gold medal in this tournament".
It should be noted that Farid Khalilov defeated Petro Jitovoz from Hungary with a score of 6:3 in the bronze medal match.
