The U-23 European Championship held in Zrenjanin, Serbia, has come to an end. According to Sport24.az, the medalists in the 60, 67, 72, 82, and 97 kg categories in Greco-Roman wrestling were determined on the last – seventh – day of the competition.
Ayxan Javadov (60 kg), one of the representatives of Azerbaijan, lost to Ukrainian opponent Yevgeni Pokovba with a score of 1:3 in the bronze medal match and finished the competition in 5th place.
Farid Khalilov (67 kg) faced Hungarian Petro Zhitovoz in the fight for third place. Khalilov, who won with a score of 5:3 in a match where mutual points were recorded, won a bronze medal.
Farayim Mustafayev (72 kg) defeated Dimitro Vasilyev with a score of 4:2 in the consolation match. Our wrestler faced Romanian Leonard Yurasku in the bronze medal match. Mustafayev, who was initially behind with a score of 0:4, showed perseverance and won – 5:4. Thus, Farayim added another medal to the national team's account.
Elmin Aliyev (82 kg) wrestled with Georgian Tornike Mikeladze in the final. Although the opponent took the lead with a score of 2:0, Aliyev seized the initiative and ultimately rejoiced with a score of 3:2, becoming the U-23 European Champion.
Our Greco-Roman wrestling team finished the championship with 1 gold, 1 silver, and 3 bronze medals. Our team took 4th place in the team standings with 100 points.
It should be reminded that Farid Sadykhly (55 kg) won a silver medal and Ilkin Gurbanov (63 kg) won a bronze medal the day before.
