The U17 World Beach Wrestling Championship was held in Katerini, Greece.
"Report" reports that 10 wrestlers represented our country under the leadership of head coach Oyan Nazariani at the prestigious competition attended by 170 athletes from 26 countries. 6 of them successfully passed the group stage and advanced to the 1/4 finals. 4 of our wrestlers qualified for the semi-finals.
Ulviyya Musayeva (55 kilograms) defeated the Polish wrestler in the semi-finals and the Japanese wrestler in the finals to climb to the highest step of the podium. Thus, she made history as our first world champion among girls in beach wrestling.
Nihad Suleymanli (80 kilograms) also achieved the same success. Our compatriot, who did not give any chance to the Iranian wrestler in the semi-finals and the Georgian wrestler in the finals, won the gold medal.
Elgun Karimli (90 kilograms), who lost to his Iranian opponent one step away from the final, became the world's third by winning 5:0 over his Moldovan colleague.
Rashad Aliyev (70 kilograms) was also close to winning a medal. However, the national team member lost to the Iranian wrestler in the semi-finals and to the Georgian wrestler in the bronze medal match, settling for 4th place.
Thus, our wrestlers won 2 gold and 1 bronze medals at the World Cup. Our boys' team scored 62 points and became the third in the world. Our team of only 2 girls shared 4-6th places with Moldova and Puerto Rico with 25 points.
Justice at the World Cup was protected by I-S category referee Sadi Guliyev.
