Azerbaijani Greco-Roman wrestler Aykhan Javadov (60 kg) feels happy to have won a gold medal at the World Championship by defeating an athlete from Armenia.
Idman.biz reports that the athlete himself said this in his statement to "Report" at the U-20 World Championship held in Samokov, Bulgaria, where he climbed to the first step of the podium.
He said that he dedicated his victory to the Azerbaijani people and his family: "It is difficult to express these feelings in words. The competition was very great for me. There was excitement before the match. Our meetings against Armenian athletes have always been of fundamental importance. I am proud to have defeated my opponent and raised the Azerbaijani flag high. My most difficult match was against the athlete in the final. Although I was behind in the score, I later recovered and achieved a successful result. I express my gratitude to all my coaches who prepared me for the competition and to the Azerbaijani people for their support."
It should be noted that Aykhan Javadov won the decisive match against Armenian Yurik Mkhitaryan with a score of 12:5 and climbed to the podium.
