"The advancement of the Azerbaijani men's volleyball team "Xilasedici" to the 1/16 finals of the Challenge Cup is a great achievement".
These words were said by Onat Kurt, the manager of the "Xilasedici" volleyball club.
He recalled that the team was founded a year ago.
"In the first season, we won the Azerbaijan Cup. The victory we achieved yesterday is a great result. The Romanian team "Steaua" is known in Europe. They had a 3:0 victory in their home field. We were able to compensate for this in Baku and eventually won the 'golden set' as well. This is one of the historic results and firsts for men's volleyball in Azerbaijan. I congratulate our players, coaching staff. They worked hard and reaped the rewards of their efforts," he said in a statement to Report.
The club official said they also want to defeat the Belgian team "Lindemans" in the next round:
"We intend to win both matches. We are a strong and experienced team. If we make few mistakes, we will continue on our way. We believe in ourselves".
It should be noted that the 1/16 final matches will take place in early 2026.
