US Senators Elizabeth Warren and Richard Blumenthal sent a letter to the US Treasury Department expressing concern about the sale of the video game company Electronic Arts to the government of Saudi Arabia.
The letter states that the senators are demanding an investigation into the deal. They believe that the acquisition of EA could increase Saudi Arabia's influence in the United States.
"We are writing to express our deep concern regarding the foreign influence and national security risks posed by the acquisition of American video game company Electronic Arts. We urge you and the committee to conduct a thorough investigation into this unprecedented sale of a major American technology and entertainment company to a foreign entity," the letter states.
In September, EA's deal with the Saudi Arabian government was announced. The deal is worth a record $55 billion. The Saudi government and its partners will acquire the rights to the EA Sports FC (formerly FIFA) football simulator, as well as the Battlefield, Need for Speed, The Sims, Mass Effect, Dragon Age and other popular video game series.
