Sahib Alakbarov, Vice President of the Azerbaijan Cycling Federation, stated that the "Baku-Khankendi" Azerbaijan cycling race was held at a high level. According to Sport24.az, the functionary, who is the chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Tournament, spoke about the organization of the race and security measures.
Sahib Alakbarov stated that he was satisfied with the organization of the race. He noted that attractive natural landscapes greet the participants in all regions of the country, and the tournament continues successfully according to plan. According to the functionary, all necessary security measures were taken during the race. Alakbarov believes that all 24 teams performing in Azerbaijan will leave the country with pleasant impressions and will want to return here again in the future. He also conveyed his congratulations to the award winners.
The chairman of the Organizing Committee emphasized that there is great interest in cycling in the country. According to him, where there is enthusiasm, things develop naturally in this direction. The functionary noted that there are villages where residents ride bicycles in their daily lives without using cars.
He added that bicycle departments have been established in a number of regions in the last seven to eight months, and these departments have been provided with the necessary equipment. Alakbarov, emphasizing that children are also involved in this sport, stated that departments operate in Gadabay, Gabala and Shamakhi, and the creation of such a department is planned in Gazakh.
It should be noted that the winner of the third stage of the cycling race Gabala-Ismayilli was the Russian member of the Kazakhstan "XDS Astana" team, Gleb Suritsa. The winner of the second stage of Baku-Ismayilli was Yevgeny Fyodorov, a cyclist of the Kazakhstan "XDS Astana" World Tour team. The winner of the first stage of the Baku-Sumgayit race was Alexey Shnirko, a Belarusian member of the Chinese "Li-Ning Star" team.
It should be reminded that 24 teams representing 20 countries of the world participate in the UCI 2.1 category race. The prize fund of the five-stage tournament is more than 50,000 euros. The race will end on May 14. The final stage of the tournament will be held in Khankendi.
