"Strong side winds at the beginning of the race made our job a bit more difficult."
These words were said to Idman.Biz in an interview by Arne Santi, a member of the Belgian "Tarteletto-Isorex" team participating in the "Baku-Khankendi" cycling race.
He stated that today's stage was generally successful:
"We turned right onto the main road after about the 40th kilometer. We knew there would be side winds in that section. Since our team took the right position, we were represented by five people in the first group. Later, the group split up on the final climbs and the race became even more difficult for us. The last category one climb was particularly steep and difficult. For me, the most difficult part of the stage was exactly that place."
It should be noted that the winner of the second stage of today's cycling race on the Baku-Ismayilli route was Kazakhstani Yevgeny Fedorov. The winner of the first stage of the Baku-Sumgayit race, which took place the previous day, was Belarusian Aleksey Shnirko, a member of the Chinese "Li-Ning Star" team.
It should be reminded that 24 teams representing 20 countries of the world are participating in the UCI (International Cycling Union) 2.1 category race. The prize fund of the five-stage tournament is more than 50 thousand euros. The competition will end on May 14. The final stage of the tournament will be held in Khankendi.
