Aleksandr Vinokurov shared his thoughts on the international "Baku-Khankendi" race. Sport24.az reports that the 52-year-old veteran athlete gave a statement to journalists.
He shared his views on the tournament:
"Based on what I've seen in the first two days, I have no complaints. Overall, everything is very well organized. There are always spectators along the track, and the track is wide. I think this race deserves a high category. The organizers will decide that. But what I know is that the races are held at a high level. Security is also ensured. The track is magnificent."
The official of the "Astana" team also spoke about the victory of the Kazakh Yevgeny Fedorov in today's second stage:
"Everything turned out as we expected. We have won in Kazakhstan and other competitions. It is a pleasure for us to participate here as well. Such competitions revive old traditions, and we try to carry the form with dignity. Overall, everything is excellent. It is very gratifying that this competition is being held again. Such competitions play a big role in popularizing cycling in the country."
A. Vinokurov especially noted the interest of children in this sport:
"This is very important. It is especially interesting for the children standing at the finish line. Tomorrow they can say that this sport is interesting and they want to do it. We started like that once."
He added that the race in Azerbaijan has magnificent ups and downs:
"There are also magnificent views. Once again, I thank the organizers. Hospitality is at a high level."
