Jamaican Usain Bolt, an eight-time Olympic and 11-time world champion in athletics, said that the current level of running shoes greatly affects the speed of athletes.
Idman.biz reports that Bolt believes he could run the 100 meters in 9.42 seconds with today's running shoes.
Usain's world record in the 100m race (9.58 seconds), set at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin, still stands.
"One of the people who continued to run after I left sports was Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce. And I saw: she became faster with the new shoes. If I had continued, I probably would have run faster. If I had known that the shoes would reach this level, I might have continued, because it would have been great to compete with today's shoes. I think I would have covered 100 meters in 9.42 seconds," Bolt said.
