Azerbaijan will be represented by 20 athletes in six sports for the first time at the XXV Summer Deaflympics, which will be held in Tokyo, the capital of Japan. Sport24.az reports that Namiq Novruzov, Secretary General of the Azerbaijan Deaflympic Committee, said this at a press conference.
He stated that participation in these Games is the beginning of a new stage for the Deaflympic movement in Azerbaijan: "It is gratifying and proud that our team will be represented by five female athletes for the first time at the Deaflympic Games. Three of them will compete in taekwondo, one in karate, and one in swimming. This is an indicator of the active participation of our female athletes in the international arena, their determination and professionalism. At the same time, this success is a clear example of the increasing role of women in sports in our country and the importance given to gender equality."
It should be noted that the Summer Deaflympics will be held on November 15-26.
