Azerbaijani judokas won 94 medals in international arenas in the first half of the year.
Idman.biz reports that, according to the statistical calculations of the "Judobase" portal, which covers the results of competitions for cadets, youth, adults and veterans, our athletes won 32 gold, 31 silver and 31 bronze medals in 6 months.
The results of the Azerbaijani national team at the European Championships among cadets held in Skopje last week led to a significant increase in the number of medals - our judokas won 3 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze medals. In the capital of North Macedonia, Anar Guliyev (50 kg), Rasul Alizade (55 kg), Zeyd Alasgarov (60 kg) became champions, Narmin Agamirzazade (48 kg) won silver, Gulshan Huseynova (44 kg) and Leyla Alakbarova (48 kg) won bronze medals.
Part of the results achieved is also related to the performances shown at the "Grand Slam" tournaments held within the framework of the World Judo Tour. Since the beginning of the year, our judokas have won 17 medals (4 gold, 4 silver, 5 bronze) in these competitions: Ruslan Pashayev (66 kg) in Paris, Zelim Tckayev (81 kg) in Baku, Balabay Agayev (60 kg) in Dushanbe, and Eldjan Hajiyev (90 kg), who successfully returned from injury, became champions in Astana.
In addition, 1 silver and 4 bronze medals at the European Championship, as well as 3 bronze medals at the World Championship, have been included in the current ranking.
Azerbaijan is currently ranked 11th in the world medal standings. Germany and Ukraine (34 gold each), which are ahead of us, have won two more gold medals. Azerbaijan is ahead of Uzbekistan, Spain, Canada, Hungary, Kazakhstan, the USA and other countries.
France is the leader with 112 gold, 84 silver and 143 bronze medals. It is followed by Georgia (74-72-89), and the top three is completed by athletes competing under the flag of the International Judo Federation (63-43-76).
There are enough international competitions in the second half of the year as well. Seven tournaments of the World Judo Tour, as well as European and world championships in various age groups are ahead.
