"In June, gymnastics competitions spread across the continent more than in other months! From the European and Junior World Championships to mass events - gymnastics has been in the spotlight."
Idman.biz reports that this was stated by Farid Gayibov, President of European Gymnastics (EG).
He noted the remarkable events of the first month of summer in the "President's Notes" section on the website of the organization he heads.
He recalled the important events that took place in June: "Immediately after the great success of the European Championships in artistic gymnastics in Leipzig, we headed to Tallinn, the capital of Estonia. The 41st European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships took place here. "Unibet Arena" presented our athletes with a real fairy tale place to demonstrate their amazing performances. The audience witnessed historical moments with the participation of both athletes and our mascot Luigi and sincerely expressed their gratitude. It was gratifying that many countries were represented on the carpet, in the final stages and at the awarding ceremony.
This was the first European-level gymnastics competition held in Estonia, and this is a proud moment for us. We are pleased to be back in the Baltic region. Special thanks to the Estonian Gymnastics Federation – you have shown that ‘small' federations can also successfully organize high-level events."
Gayibov also mentioned the gymnastics festival held in Lausanne, Switzerland: "This is one of the largest and oldest gymnastics festivals in the world. We had the honor to witness the 77th event of this magnificent festival. This festival, which began almost 200 years ago - first held in 1832 - is held every 6 years and is currently the largest sporting event in Switzerland. With 65,000 participants and 300,000 visitors, this is the best advertisement for our sport: it shows the joy of practicing gymnastics, whether amateur or high-level, emphasizes the quality of performances, and attracts guests from all over the world."
The President of European Gymnastics also spoke about the World Youth Championships, which are important events: "The stars of the future shone at this tournament held in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. At the third event, the host country remained true to its world-famous rhythmic gymnastics reputation, once again distinguishing itself by demonstrating that the next generation is as good as the previous ones. Representatives of Poland and Georgia also won medals in individual competitions, while Ukraine and Italy won prizes in the group competition. The fact that a large number of countries reached the final and won medals is a great step forward for this type. The future certainly looks bright!"
Farid Gayibov also informed about the second meeting of the European Gymnastics Executive Committee held in Lausanne: "Here we discussed many interesting topics, including the European Cup series. I am pleased to announce that a rhythmic gymnastics competition has already been approved – it will be held again in Baku on the first weekend of May for the third year in a row! We plan to add more types and stages to this series within the framework of the "Strategy Plan 2030".
He also touched upon the preparations for the European Gymnastics Congress to be held in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, at the end of November:
"The congress is electoral in nature and the list of candidates has already been announced. The fact that so many countries and candidates are ready to contribute to the organization is a successful result of the work we have done in recent times and our new strategy. I wish all candidates success and I believe that our federations will choose professional people for the future of European gymnastics."
Finally, Gayibov drew attention to the two major multi-sport events coming up: "The European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) and the World Universiade will be held in July. Both showcase the best of gymnastics for very different target groups: EYOF gives young artistic gymnasts the opportunity to test their strength for the first time in a complex event, while the World University Games show that education and high-level sports performance are interrelated. Good luck to all participants!"
