The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has rejected Israel's appeal against the decision not to allow its gymnasts to participate in the World Championships.
Idman.Biz reports that the World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships will be held in Jakarta from October 21 to 27. The Indonesian government refused to grant visas to the Israeli team due to the crisis in the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli Gymnastics Federation (IGF) appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport to protest this decision.
In its appeal, the IGF claimed that the statutes of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) require a decision to be made if entry visas are not granted to all delegations participating in the event. The IGF also claimed that the absence of such a decision constitutes a denial of justice, thereby creating a situation of discrimination.
The FIG emphasized that it does not have the authority to issue entry visas to Indonesia and that the fact that the Indonesian authorities did not issue visas to Israeli citizens is completely outside the jurisdiction of the FIG.
"The applications for urgent interim measures were considered by the Vice-President of the CAS Appeals Arbitration Division. Both applications were rejected," the CAS website said.
