Following the European golf team's historic victory at the Ryder Cup 2025, all eyes are on captain Luke Donald. Under his leadership, Europe won the title on US soil for only the fifth time, and now the question on everyone's mind is: will Donald lead the team again at the next tournament in Ireland in 2027?
At Bethpage Black, European players celebrated their victory as fans chanted, "Stay for two more years!" Donald made history, becoming only the second European captain after Tony Jacklin (1985 and 1987) to win consecutive Ryder Cups.
The tournament saw a tense atmosphere, even with Rory McIlroy speaking of "pressure and abusive behavior." But it was Donald's resilience and proper preparation that he instilled in the team that is considered the key to this success.
"I approached this with all my heart because I felt I owed it to the Ryder Cup, which is very valuable to both the players and me. I had to put my own game second. Every day I thought about what I could do to give the team another step up," Donald said.
According to him, the environment in New York was difficult and sometimes unbearable: "But when you prepare the players enough, when you are in constant communication with them and give them a clear plan, there is no need for extra motivation. Because the sense of unity is stronger than anything."
Now, the entire European sports community is waiting: Will Luke Donald continue his captaincy mission in 2027?
