Today, May 28, in Bratislava, Slovakia, the Azerbaijan national minifootball team, as the world champion, will start fighting for the European championship.
Idman.Biz reminds that our team has previously won the continental championship. Our team won the European champion title in 2022 at the tournament held in Slovakia again. However, in the last EURO-2024, which is organized every two years, the national team took only fifth place. Nevertheless, after the success in the World Championship, the expectations of the fans from our team are very high.
The Azerbaijan national team will face France, Italy and Austria in Group F. None of these opponents seem to pose a serious threat to our team.
The Austrian team, which our national team will face today, is ranked 24th among 30 teams in the ranking of the European Minifootball Federation (EMF). The team did not participate in EURO-2024 and has entered a period of "renewal" since then. Italy is also not expected to pose a serious threat. This team is 16th in the European ranking.
France, on the other hand, stands out with its more successful results. This team was included in the top four at the last European Championship and surpassed Azerbaijan by one place. Currently, the French are 6th in the EMF ranking and 9th in the World Minifootball Federation (WMF). However, the Azerbaijani national team defeated France 3:1 in the European Championship held in 2024.
In addition to Azerbaijan, Serbia and Romania are also among the main favorites of the tournament. Both teams are in the top three of the world and European rankings:
WMF ranking:
Azerbaijan – 1st place,
Serbia – 2nd place,
Romania – 3rd place;
EMF ranking:
Romania – 1st place,
Azerbaijan – 2nd place,
Serbia – 3rd place.
Serbia is the current European champion. Romania is considered the most titled team on the continent. The Romanians became European champions six times in a row in 2010-2015, when the tournament was held every year. In the last three EUROS, they were satisfied with silver medals.
It is also necessary to mention Hungary, the silver medalist of the World Championship held in Baku in 2025, as well as Kazakhstan and Bulgaria, which are in the top five in Europe.
Most likely, the Azerbaijani national team will compete with these teams for the next title and a repeat of the triumph in Slovakia.
Let us remind you that the tournament will last until June 4.
