The company that owns the McLaren team is currently valued at approximately £3.5 billion. İdman.biz reports with reference to AZERTAC that its market value has increased more than six times in the last five years.
This increase was the result of changes in the shareholder structure of the McLaren Group. In 2020, the American MSP Capital acquired a 33 percent stake in the company for £185 million. But now that stake has been bought by Mumtalakat, Bahrain's state investment fund, and Abu Dhabi-owned CYVN Holdings. If McLaren Racing was valued at £560 million five years ago, it is now £3.5 billion.
Until last year, the controlling stake in McLaren was owned by the Mumtalakat fund, but in December 2024, the fund sold all of its shares to CYVN.
"This is a great day for McLaren Racing," BBC Sport quotes team boss Zak Brown as saying. "In the recent past, our business was risky and we weren't competitive. But what's happened now, five years later, shows both the success of the budget cap era in Formula 1 and our return to competitive levels. It's great to see McLaren fighting for wins again and the simplification of the shareholder structure has been great," he said.
Last year, the McLaren team won the Constructors' Cup for the first time since 1998 and is currently approaching the lead in the world championship for both drivers and teams. Its drivers Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris hold the top two places in the team standings and have won 12 of this year's 15 races.
McLaren Racing is part of the McLaren Group. The official announcement of Mumtalakat and CYVN's acquisition of all the company's shares was made on Tuesday.
