Former "Formula 1" driver Felipe Massa has demanded $82 million in compensation due to losing his championship to Lewis Hamilton at the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix.
Idman.biz reports with reference to "The Times" that the claim was filed against the FIA, the governing body of "Formula 1", and the organization's former CEO, Bernie Ecclestone.
In that race, Nelson Piquet's deliberate crash allowed his teammate Fernando Alonso to finish first. The planned accident caused the safety car to come onto the track, allowing Alonso to finish first. Lewis Hamilton finished 3rd, gaining 6 points. Massa, who was the leader of the season, failed to score points in the Singapore Grand Prix, finishing 13th.
According to the rules in force at the time, the FIA had to cancel the results of the Singapore race. If this had happened, Massa would have become champion with a five-point difference.
It is noted that the 44-year-old Brazilian pilot's claim is expected to be considered in London, the capital of Great Britain, in October.
