The national team of this country will participate in the WC-2026 if the host country issues visas to all members of the Iranian delegation, including individuals associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). According to Sport24.az, the head of the Iranian Football Federation, Mehdi Taj, stated this in a statement to the local press:
"We will definitely participate in the 2026 World Cup, but the hosts must take our concerns into account. We will participate in the World Cup, but without giving up our beliefs, culture, and principles. All players and coaching staff, especially players like Mehdi Taremi and Ehsan Hajsafi, who have served in the IRGC, must be issued visas without any problems."
It should be noted that the Iranian Minister of Sports, Ahmad Donyamali, said some time ago that "there are no conditions that allow us to participate in the World Cup." US President Donald Trump said that Iranians were invited to the tournament, but "it is not appropriate for them to participate in the competition for their own safety." It was also reported that the Iranians are negotiating to hold their matches in Mexico.
