Today, the draw for the play-off matches of the European zone of the football world championship, which will be held next year in the USA, Mexico and Canada, will take place. Sport24.xəbər reports that the event will be held at FIFA headquarters at 16:00 Baku time.
12 teams that took second place in their groups in the qualifying round and four teams from the League of Nations (Romania, Sweden, Northern Ireland and North Macedonia) will participate in the play-off matches.
In total, 16 teams will be divided into four pots. The countries in the first pot will face the teams in the fourth, and the teams in the second pot will face the teams in the third group.
Pot I: Turkey, Italy, Ukraine, Denmark;
Pot II: Wales, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia;
Pot III: Albania, Ireland, Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina;
Pot IV: Romania, Sweden, Northern Ireland, North Macedonia.
The semi-final matches of the play-off stage, which will consist of one match, will be played on March 26, 2026, and the final matches will be played on March 31. The team that wins the final will qualify for the World Championship.
