Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde has released a statement after an incident with teammate Aurelien Tchouameni.
Idman.Biz reports that the Uruguayan footballer protested the presentation of the incident as a fight.
"Yesterday during training I had an incident with a teammate. The fatigue and frustration of the competitions caused everything to seem exaggerated. These things can happen in a normal changing room and are usually resolved within the team, without being made public. It is clear that someone here is spreading rumors and everything gets out of control because Real Madrid is always in the spotlight in a season without titles," said Valverde.
The midfielder admitted that a misunderstanding arose between them:
"During the argument, I accidentally hit the table, which caused a small scratch on my forehead and I had to go to the hospital for a routine examination. My teammate didn't hit me, and I didn't hit him either. I understand that it's easier for you to believe that we were in a fight or that it was done on purpose, but it wasn't."
Valverde said he regretted the incident and said the situation caused him pain:
"Real Madrid is one of the most important things in my life and I can't be indifferent to it. As a result, so much has accumulated that it turned into a pointless argument that damaged my image and opened the door to doubt."
"I have no doubt that any disagreements we have off the field disappear on the field, and if it is necessary to defend it inside the stadium, I will be the first. I did not intend to make a statement until the end of the season. We were eliminated from the Champions League and I was holding back my anger and resentment."
"I am the one who is most saddened and hurt by this situation, which does not allow me to participate in the next game due to medical decisions. I am at the disposal of the club and my teammates to cooperate in any decision they deem necessary."
