Valdas Dambrauskas, the Lithuanian head coach of the Azerbaijani football club "Sabah", gave a wide-ranging interview to İTV.
Idman.Biz reports that he shared interesting thoughts about his move to "Sabah", the potential of our championship, "Qarabag" and Gurban Gurbanov.
The specialist noted that negotiations with the "Sabah" management did not take long, and his arrival in Azerbaijan is an indicator of the trust formed over a certain period of time.
"Sabah's desire to be ambitious attracted me a lot. Here I felt freedom and the support of the management. When I came to Baku, I was set the goal of winning a ticket to European tournaments. We coped with this task," said V. Dambrauskas.
The specialist also spoke about "Qarabag" coach Gurban Gurbanov. The Lithuanian specialist had kind words for the head coach of the Aghdam team:
"This team has been the champion of Azerbaijan for 11 of the last 12 years, and is the face of the country's football. They did not represent the country in continental arenas simply thanks to luck. I think it is very difficult to do this in Europe. If a team plays in the Champions League play-off, this is the pinnacle of this work. There are currently three elite coaches working in the league, and everyone knows the work they do. Yuri Verniudub's "Sheriff" beat "Real Madrid", and Kurban Berdyev's "Rubin" beat "Barcelona". I must also especially note the work of Gurban Gurbanov. Show me some post-Soviet country where such high-quality coaches work."
