Andrew Giuliani, head of the White House working group on preparations for the 2026 World Cup in the administration of US President Donald Trump, announced that the Iranian national team has been invited to the tournament, despite the tense relations between the two countries.
Idman.Biz reports with reference to "Politico" that Giuliani said he had discussed this with the president and received a positive response.
"I will not speak on behalf of the Iranian team, but I can say that during our conversation with the president, he invited the Iranians here. The FIFA president also made a statement yesterday regarding the future of Iran. Therefore, we are waiting for them here. Our expectation is that the Iranian team will arrive in Tucson in early June, and then play their games in Los Angeles and Seattle," said Giuliani.
It should be reminded that FIFA President Gianni Infantino also said earlier that "Iran, of course, should come to the World Cup," emphasizing that political tension should not affect sports.
