The European Super League project, the biggest tension in European football in the last five years, has officially become history. Real Madrid, the last loyal member and main architect of the project, has announced its withdrawal from the project by reaching an agreement with UEFA.
Idman.Biz, referring to the publications "Diario AS" and "Marca", reports that the agreement reached between the parties envisages the future prosperity of European football and the protection of sports principles. According to the official statement published on February 11, 2026, this step also puts an end to all legal disputes between the parties.
Key points of the agreement:
- Waiver of indemnity claim: Real Madrid has withdrawn its huge indemnity claim against UEFA, valued at 4.5 billion euros (approximately 9 billion AZN).
- Independent negotiations: The "Royal Club" has retained the right to conduct direct and independent negotiations with UEFA regarding future football reforms, regardless of other organizations uniting nearly 800 clubs.
- Impact of the new format: It is reported that the serious legal pressure exerted on UEFA by the club led by Florentino Perez played a decisive role in changing the format of the Champions League and increasing the income allocated to clubs.
With this agreement, the last nail has been hammered into the coffin of the Super League project. After "Barcelona" made a similar decision last week, "Real" was left alone in the project. Now, the Madrid representative is expected to return to the European Club Association (ECA) and cooperate more closely with UEFA.
