The Azerbaijani women's national football team showed character in the match against North Macedonia (2:0), which took place today in the qualifying round of the World Championship.
According to "Report", this was stated by the head coach of the team, Siyasat Asgarov, at a press conference held after the match at the Dalga Arena.
The specialist said that he was satisfied with the team's performance:
"It was a very good day. Of course, it was a difficult game. We wanted to win and we are proud that we succeeded. I thank our players. We made mistakes in the first 20 minutes of the match, but the team gradually recovered. We knew that the opponent would put pressure in the second half as well. We had to be as careful as possible. Because the opponent would attack for an equalizing goal and would make mistakes somewhere. The girls showed character until the end, scored the second goal and won."
S. Asgarov emphasized that the match against the Hungarian national team on March 7 will be difficult:
"It is very difficult to recover in a short time. We have losses in our squad, 3 of our players are out of the squad due to injuries. We now have a long trip to Hungary ahead of us. We are familiar with the strength of the opponent, they have players with high individual qualities in their squad. Nevertheless, we aim to return from Hungary with at least a draw."
