Sevilla's sporting director, Antonio Cordon, spoke about the problems in the Spanish La Liga, comparing it to the English second division.
Idman.Biz reports that Cordon believes that the dependence of Spanish football on money and the fact that 10 teams are only five points behind each other is not normal.
"What I have seen in recent years is something I have never seen before, and I have been in the professional world for 30 years. Spanish football lags even behind the Championship. The salaries paid abroad can be compared to the salaries of five or six teams in Spain. It is not normal for 10 teams to be only five points behind each other. Therefore, we must strengthen our squad, our youth academy, and get support from the fans. If we have to rely on money, we will not get anywhere. And the clubs made this decision, they all came together and decided that this should be the case. Maybe if you don't qualify for European cups, all restrictions will be lifted? Perhaps this should have been considered before, but it was not my decision at the time," AS quoted Cordon as saying.
It should be reminded that Sevilla is facing financial problems due to the regulations of the Spanish league. The team cannot acquire new players. However, it is currently in 15th place in the La Liga standings and two points above the relegation zone.
