Today, a meeting was held with the participation of the "Neftchi" management and head coach Samir Abasov.
Idman.Biz reports with reference to the club's press service that the team's performance in the current season was discussed at the meeting.
It was reported that Samir Abasov has been provided with all kinds of support from the management since the contract was signed in October last year, including full authority in transfer activities and team building.
All 14 transfers carried out during the off-season and after the start of the season were carried out at the request and approval of the head coach, including all decisions regarding players leaving the team were made by the head coach.
When the contract was signed, Samir Abasov was tasked with demonstrating creative and attacking football and achieving the highest results in all tournaments in which the team participates.
However, over the past 12 rounds, neither the team's development dynamics nor its position in the tournament table have been satisfactory. Although the head coach promised that the team would improve from game to game during the season and that the players would reach their peak form in November, a decrease in the quality of the game has been observed in recent matches. Only 3 wins in 12 games were not considered desirable, and the defeat in the match with "Imishli" was the culmination of the decline.
Taking into account Samir Abasov's services in "Neftchi" as both a player and a coach, as well as his diligence in his activities this season, the club offered him to resign in the name of professional ethics.
In turn, Samir Abasov disagreed with the arguments presented, claiming that the current results were not so bad, that the current failures were not directly related to his coaching activities, but to random factors, and said that the team would be in the top 3 at the end of the season. Refusing to resign, he stated that he intends to demand full compensation if the club terminates the contract with him unilaterally.
Taking into account the above, "Neftchi" PFK dismissed Samir Abasov. We thank Samir Abasov for his services, who showed high dedication and adhered to work ethics during his time at the club, and wish him success in his future career.
Currently, the search for a new head coach is ongoing. Sanan Gurbanov has been entrusted with preparing the team for the match against Turan Tovuz on November 28.
