"We wanted to win. There was desire in the team. Our fans were also amazing. Their support was very nice and we felt it on the field."
These words were said by the national team's footballer Rustam Ahmadzadeh.
The 25-year-old footballer shared his thoughts after the home defeat to Iceland (0:2) in the qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup: "We were well prepared for the game. We wanted to earn at least one point in the game against Iceland. Unfortunately, we were unlucky in some moments, so it didn't work out," he said in a statement to sport24.az.
Ahmadzadeh also touched upon the match against France on November 16: "The match against France will be our last match in the group. We are playing at home, we must play for the country and the fans. We must show our maximum ability against a team like France and try to please the spectators."
It should be noted that the Azerbaijan-France match will be held on November 16 and the meeting will start at 21:00.
