The Investigative Department of the Russian Interior Ministry (MVD) is investigating allegations that nine referees received illegal compensation for influencing match results.
Idman.Biz reports that new instances of possible corruption in the referee corps have been revealed within the framework of a criminal case related to the former leadership of Torpedo Moscow. This was reported by RBK with reference to two sources familiar with the investigation, as well as confirmation from a source close to the Russian Football Union (RFU).
According to the source, Russian Premier League (RPL) referees Yegor Yegorov, Ivan Sarayev, and Vladislav Tselovalnikov, as well as First League referees Yuri Karpov, Maxim Perezva, German Kovalenko, Kirill Silantyev, and Oleg Sokolov, have been charged under Part 4 of Article 184 of the Criminal Code (illegal influence on the result of an official sports competition). It is emphasized that the person of interest in the case is former First League referee Igor Zakharov. If found guilty, the aforementioned referees could face up to seven years in prison.
Against this backdrop, the RFU Executive Committee intends to amend the lists of RPL and First League referees for the 2025/2026 season, excluding the aforementioned referees.
