There are hardly any quiet days at Manchester United. A personal scandal that arose years ago around the club's former footballer and interim head coach Michael Carrick has been recalled.
İdman.Biz reports that Carrick met his wife Lisa Loughhead in Newcastle as a teenager. The couple married in 2007 and have a daughter named Louise and a son named Jacey, who currently plays in the Manchester United academy. Lisa Loughhead is a Pilates instructor and is also involved in the activities of Carrick's charity foundation.
The tension dates back to 2014. At that time, Roy Keane (former Manchester United footballer) called Carrick's interview after the Champions League game against Olympiacos "soulless". Reacting to these comments, Lisa Loughhead used harsh language against Keane on social media, and then deleted the post, saying that she was carried away by her emotions and apologized.
The situation became relevant again in January 2026. After Ruben Amorim's departure, Carrick was appointed interim head coach of Manchester United until the end of the season. He had previously performed the same role in 2021 after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's departure.
Speaking on the "Stick to Football" podcast, Roy Keane returned to the old topic, expressing ironic thoughts and alluding to Carrick's wife.
Carrick said at his press conference that these words did not bother him:
"They are not important to me. There are enough opinions and noise around this position."
This event is considered as a clash between Roy Keane's harsh style and personal past. Carrick, on the other hand, is focused on creating stability at Manchester United until the end of the season and preparing the team for difficult games.
