The strongest football clubs in Europe are proposing to expand the Champions League squad to 28 players.
According to Idman.Biz, citing The Guardian, the proposal was voiced at a meeting of the UEFA Club Competitions Committee. Representatives of several clubs believe that increasing the number of players in the squad will help reduce the workload on players, which in turn could lead to a decrease in injuries and an increase in the competitiveness of matches.
However, some of the 16 clubs on the committee are against such changes. They believe that expanding the squad could lead to talented players moving to the best clubs, which would negatively affect competition in European football and lead to a decrease in the revenues of leagues outside the top five.
No decision has been made on this matter after the discussion. However, discussions on potential reform are likely to continue in the future. Recall that clubs are currently limited to registering a maximum of 25 players in the Champions League.
