New information has been released about Mircea Lucescu, who was hospitalized with a severe flu.
According to Lent.az, citing foreign media, Lucescu, who is currently coaching the Romanian national team, has been hospitalized in a "critical but under control condition."
The decision to hospitalize him was made taking into account his "complicated heart history" and the age of the experienced coach. This has forced the coach to temporarily suspend his professional commitments to the Romanian national team in order to prepare for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
"It's true, I'm in the hospital. I was there for a while earlier in the year, and then I was released home. But during this time I caught the flu and had to be hospitalized again," Lucescu said.
Lucescu has been leading the Romanian national team since August 2024. This spring, the team will play play-off matches for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Lucescu's team's first opponent will be the Turkish national team, which will be played on March 26.
