New information has been released regarding Mircea Lucescu, who was hospitalized with severe influenza.
According to Lent.az, citing foreign media, Lucescu, who currently coaches the Romanian national team, has been hospitalized in a "critical but under control" condition.
The decision to hospitalize him was made taking into account his "complex heart history" and the experienced coach's age. This has forced the coach to temporarily suspend his professional commitments to the Romanian national team in preparation for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
"It's true, I'm in the hospital. I was there for a while earlier in the year, and then I was released home. But in the meantime, I caught the flu and had to be hospitalized again," Lucescu noted.
Lucescu has been leading the Romanian national team since August 2024. This spring, the team will play play-off matches for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Lucescu's team's first opponent will be the Turkish national team, which will be played on March 26.
