The first official card of Argentina national team and Inter Miami striker Lionel Messi, made in the 2004/2005 season when he debuted for his former club Barcelona, has been put up for online auction.

This is the highest amount ever paid for a football card. The previous record was $1.33 million. That amount was paid in 2022 for a card depicting Brazilian football legend Pele.
It should be noted that in 2004, Messi made his official debut for Barcelona's main team. Debut season cards of future superstars traditionally gain special value among collectors.
