It still feels unbelievable to think that I will soon be playing against great teams in the Champions League. Our games in the qualifying stage were very intense, but we achieved our goal. I think it's the result of my long-term efforts.
According to Sport24.az, AZERTAC reports that these words were said by "Qarabag's" Polish goalkeeper Mateusz Kochalski in an interview with his country's press.
He linked his high performance in the qualifying and play-off stages of the tournament with experience: "Everything changes quickly in football, and nothing can be ruled out. I made my debut in the Polish Ekstraklasa with "Radomyak" in April 2022, and two years later I played against the prestigious English club "Tottenham" in the Europa League with "Qarabag". We were not able to achieve great success in the Europa League. But playing against opponents such as "Tottenham", "Lyon", "Ajax" and "Olympiacos" was very useful in terms of experience. This experience helped me a lot in the Champions League qualifying stage."
The 25-year-old goalkeeper also commented on the cessation of the fight of Polish clubs in the Champions League: "I am very happy that four representatives of Poland qualified for the UEFA Conference League, but the Champions League is several levels higher. I believe that one of our clubs will soon be represented in this tournament again. But now I am writing my own history with "Qarabag". I am very excited when I look at our opponents in the main stage of the elite tournament. In this team, I am fighting for the championship of Azerbaijan and participating in European Cups, which ensures my comprehensive development."
It should be noted that Mateusz Kochalski has been playing for "Qarabag" since the summer of last year.
