Uruguayan midfielder Lucas Torreira of Turkish football team Galatasaray was physically attacked in Istanbul.
İdman.Biz reports that the incident took place in front of one of the shopping centers located in Beyoğlu Kasımpaşa. According to Turkish media, the football player was punched by a person named Yusuf Y. after leaving the cafe.
The footage shows the suspect suddenly approaching Torreira, and people and security personnel around him intervening. It is reported that the attacker then tried to leave the area by taxi, but was detained by the police.
In his statement, the suspect said that he was following the football player because he thought that Torreira was also interested in İpek B., with whom he had established a relationship via social media. Torreira told the police in his statement that İpek B. was his girlfriend and that he had previously obtained a 45-day restraining order against that person.
A medical examination revealed redness between Torreira's left eyebrow and eye.
As the investigation deepened, it was revealed that the suspect had made threatening posts about Torreira, actress Devrim Özkan, İpek B. and the entire Galatasaray team in the past. These messages even contained death threats.
