VID, a Miami-based company specializing in organizing sports and music events, has filed a lawsuit against Inter Miami striker Lionel Messi and the Argentine Football Association (AFA) for breach of contract.
Sports.Biz reports this with reference to TMZ.
VID signed a $7 million contract with the Argentine Football Association last October for exclusive rights to two national team exhibition games with Venezuela (1:0) and Puerto Rico (6:0).
According to the contract, Messi was to play at least 30 minutes in each match, except in the event of injury. However, the Argentinian did not play against Venezuela but played the next day in an MLS match with Atlanta (4:0), scoring two goals and providing one assist.
The company claims to have lost millions of dollars due to the 38-year-old superstar's absence and is demanding full compensation, plus additional compensation.
