Approximately 30,000 "Lazio" fans boycotted the Serie A match against "Genoa" in the 23rd round, leaving the "Stadio Olimpico" almost empty.
Idman.Biz reports that this decision is the result of a long-standing conflict between the fans and the club's president, Claudio Lotito.
The protest stems from fans' dissatisfaction with the club's lack of ambition, transfer restrictions, and recent scandals, including the leak of private phone conversations involving Lotito. Tensions rose after the club issued a statement calling the boycott calls unacceptable, which fans perceived as an insult to their constitutional rights.
The atmosphere in the stadium was unusual: instead of the traditional roar, the "Olimpico" greeted the teams in silence. Before leaving the stadium, fans unfurled a banner with a harsh message addressed to the club president, emphasizing that living without dreams is no longer acceptable.
Despite the lack of support from the stands, Maurizio Sarri's team managed to win thanks to Danilo Cataldi's goal in the 90+10th minute.
