Brighton midfielder James Milner has equaled an English Premier League record.
Report informs, citing the official website of the championship, the 40-year-old football player realized this by entering the field in the 22nd minute of the match with Aston Villa in the 16th round.
Milner, who is playing his 653rd game in the Premier League, has equaled Gareth Barry's record for the most matches in the history of the championship.
The experienced player defended the honor of clubs such as Leeds (48 games), Newcastle (94 games), Aston Villa (100 games), Manchester City (147 games) and Liverpool (230 games) during his career. Milner, who joined Brighton in the summer of 2023, has participated in 34 matches in this team so far. The midfielder, who has scored a total of 56 goals in the Premier League, is also one of the top 10 assistants in the history of the tournament with 90 assists.
If Milner takes the field in the match against Brentford on February 21, he will break Gareth Barry's record and rise to the top of the list. Among the players who are currently playing, his closest follower is Brentford member Jordan Henderson (454 games).
It should be noted that J. Milner is the 5th outfield player to appear in the Premier League after the age of 40. The record for the oldest outfield player in the history of the tournament still belongs to Teddy Sheringham, who played his last match at the age of 40 years and 272 days.
