FIFA President Gianni Infantino spoke at the World Economic Forum held in Davos, Switzerland.
Idman.Biz reports that he presented record figures for the 2026 World Cup, which will feature 48 teams.
"This will be the first World Cup with 48 teams, which is about a quarter of all the teams in the world. 104 matches will be played in 16 magnificent stadiums in three countries. There will be approximately 7 million spectators in the stadiums and approximately 6 billion people watching on television around the world. For Americans watching the games, it's like watching 104 Super Bowls in a month.
We opened the first phase of ticket sales four weeks ago and received more than 500 million applications. In the approximately 100-year history of the World Cup, FIFA has sold only approximately 50 million tickets, and here we received applications equal to 1000 years of World Cup history in four weeks. This shows that people want to be there, travel and be together," said Infantino.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be held from June 11 to July 19 in three countries - the USA, Canada and Mexico.
