FIFA President Gianni Infantino has stated that he expects the Iranian national team to participate in the WC-2026. According to Sport24.az, the head of the supreme football body made a statement to "Voetbal International" about this:
"We hope that the situation will calm down by then. This will definitely help. But Iran, of course, must come. They must represent their nation. The Iranian national team has qualified and the players want to play. I saw them two weeks ago. Iran really has a good enough team. They just need to come. Sport must be separate from politics."
It should be noted that the US and Israel launched a large-scale military operation against Iran in late February. Currently, there is a temporary ceasefire between the US and Iran.
The Iranian national team should play all group stage matches (against New Zealand, Belgium and Egypt) in the USA.
The 2026 World Cup will be held in the USA, Canada and Mexico from June 11 to July 19.
