Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has responded to comments made by Manchester United co-owner Jim Ratcliffe.
Idman.Biz reports that Ratcliffe spoke about the large migrant population in Great Britain.
"I have great respect for Sir Jim; I have had the chance to meet him. He apologized after his comments, so I am not going to comment on what he said because Jim said exactly what he wanted to say. But the problem worldwide is that we treat immigrants or people coming from other countries as a problem for our countries, and that is a huge mistake because it is not their fault.
Me being Catalan and you being British - how does the place where we were born affect us? It was the choice of our parents. Everyone wants a better life and a better future for themselves, for their families, for their friends, and sometimes the opportunities are where you were born, and sometimes they are where you can move.
It used to be very difficult to travel, but today you can be anywhere in an hour. The color of the skin or where you were born doesn’t matter anymore. We have a lot of work to do in that area. I don’t think being Catalan means I am better than you.
My education in the place where I was born, my travels in Mexico and Qatar, my life in Italy, England or Germany - they are just a blessing for my personality. Unbelievable… I have had nice people in my travels, and that is all. But that doesn’t make it easier for me to be born in one place or another. The majority of the people leave their countries because of problems in their countries, not because they want to leave. When you accept other cultures - really accept them - the society becomes a better place.
Has the Manchester City dressing room created a positive atmosphere thanks to the mix of different cultures? Of course. How nice is it when you have Christians and Muslims, and they love each other, they respect each other, and they work together. What is the problem? The problem is created by the leaders and the presidents. If we have to trust them, we are in trouble. We have to build our civilization ourselves. We have to trust the guys who will tell us what to do, what to fight for,” Guardiola told The Guardian.
