Iraq national team coach Graham Arnold has called for the postponement of the 2026 World Cup playoff match.
Idman.Biz reports that he attributed this to transportation and flight problems caused by military tensions in neighboring Iran.
On March 31, the Iraqi national team is scheduled to face the winner of the Bolivia-Suriname pair in Monterrey, Mexico, for a ticket to the World Cup. However, after US and Israeli airstrikes on Iran on February 28, the situation in the region has escalated and Iraqi airspace has been closed.
Arnold stated that it would be more appropriate to postpone the match so that the team could prepare with its strongest squad for one of the most important games for the country in the last 40 years. He also suggested that Bolivia and Suriname face each other first, and Iraq would face the winner in the United States a week before the World Cup.
