Former Barcelona player Gerard López has sharply criticized the team's current head coach, Hansi Flick, after their 1-4 defeat to Sevilla in La Liga. Sport24.az reported this with reference to foreign media.
According to López, the high defensive line tactic implemented by the German specialist is now "suicidal" and should have been reviewed a long time ago.
López, who played for the club from 2000 to 2005, stated that opponents have adapted to Flick's style of play, who has been working with the team for over a year:
"It is clear that Barcelona's results are getting worse. This defeat could be a signal to reconsider the defensive aspect. Moving forward and doing it with quality is one thing, playing suicidally is quite another. If there is no pressure on the ball, the team is forced to retreat. Flick has been working for a year and a half, and it is time to critically evaluate Barcelona's defensive tactics. In the last game, the pressing was weak, and the opponent was often allowed to play freely," López said in a statement to Catalunya Ràdio.
It is worth noting that the defeat to Sevilla is Barcelona's second consecutive defeat in a week. The team previously lost to PSG at home in the Champions League (1:2).
