The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has fined the Swedish Football Association 60,000 kronor ($6,350 USD). Sport24.az reports that this was due to the inappropriate behavior of the national team's fans.
Specifically, during the Sweden vs. Switzerland match within the qualifying stage of the 2026 World Cup, local fans booed from the stands while the opposing team's anthem was being played.
Football Association CEO Tobias Tibell said: "Of course, we are very happy and highly appreciate the amazing support that our fans consistently give to our national teams. At the same time, we would like to emphasize the importance of always treating our opponents with respect, and we are therefore sorry for the noise that occurred during the playing of the Swiss anthem."
It is noted that the association has accepted FIFA's decision and will not appeal.
